If one parent is critical, pointing out every single flaw in life, and nothing is ever done right, fast enough, etc. does it stomp on a childs self esteem? Does it make them critical? Is it healthy? What do you do about a parent who is never satisfied… a faultfinder? What do we tell them? Any advice would help. thanks!

It could cause them to accept failure, lack of motivation and complacence.....or it could cause excessive approval seeking, status anxiety, and pretentiousness.

No one is ever motivated to perform by criticism. A little approval and success goes a long way, as to motivating one to strive to exceed expectations and pursue achievements.

Any form of criticism that a child is subjected to or a witness to is definitely detrimental to their self esteem. Children should be corrected and reprimanded not criticized and ridiculed.
