My mother told me, when I was five years old, that Santa Claus brought the presents, but that she and my father had to pay for them. I told her that if that was true, then Santa was only a delivery man, and why couldn't we just go to the store and buy things. I've always thought that was pretty good logic for a five-year-old.

I definitely believed in Santa Claus. I finally learned the truth or should I say accepted the truth when I was 11 years old. I asked for a tv for my room and didn't get it. I realize this is common these days, but this was 30 years ago and not very common.
Many kids at school kept saying he wasn't real, but I didn't want to believe. I think this was the first year I didn't get what I asked for. I was devastated.
My kids learned much younger, because so many kids or their parents tell them the truth early on.
I like the truth that, Santa does exist. Santa realistically though cannot go all around the world in one night and that parents are Santas helpers. Sometimes parents cannot afford what kids ask for.
Santa is here to make kids dream and use their imagination. Santa is here to brighten up the holidays. Maybe Santa doesn't bring everyone presents, but Santa does exist.

When I was 5 years old I swore up and down that I saw Santa putting presents under the tree. Till this day I vividly remember the dream it must have been. At about 7 years of age I had a harder time letting my parents know that I didn't believe in Santa. Then my Dad threw me another screw ball. The Three Wise Men. He said they were the ones bringing gifts. He would take me outside and show me three stars in the sky to prove it. I now know that it's Orion's Belt in the sky. I never felt betrayed, but I did feel a little silly going back to school and telling my friends that the Three Wise Men brought me gifts. Oh well, I can laugh about it today, and still think fondly about the fun memories of Christmas.

I thinks it's good for children to find out they were misled. It prepares them for adult life and reality. Some kids today are much wiser than there own parents to these things already.Besides they see so many Santa's they might think that they're clones anyway.

I can't remember exactly how old I was, I think I was older than a lot of kids when they "found out" but I actually started wondering about it earlier when I saw the commercials on TV and learned the phrase "stocking stuffers."
Mom just told me that when I went to her about it she told me it was OK to not believe in him however he wouldn't come anymore. He still comes to this day and I'm 25...

I was 10 and at first. But I got over it. And now I'll teach my kids the same. My nephew already believes. Children need the chance to be children. To still believe in magic. Life will take away that innocence soon enough. Let them enjoy it while they can.

My sister blurted out the secret, don't remember how old I was. I was just like, oh, and knew from then on all the presents from "santa" were from my parents.
