I worked as a medical secretary for 31 years. my job has always been very fast paced and stressful. I covered telephones, did lots of typing, doing payroll for 85-95 doctors and staff, ect. I came off work due to an injury to my neck, shoulders and back. I retired March 2001. I suffer with depression.

Well, although your job seemed to be "stressful", it sounds like you enjoyed it. You probably felt very useful; maybe even essential for the smooth functioning of the office. Now, because of your injury, you can't seem to do the same things you used to, so you feel a bit depressed, because you may not feel as though you're playing a useful role.

Perhaps, if your condition allows it, you could have your own business being an "organizer" -- you know, like, organizing people's closets, or their own home-office files, or other things that need organizing, but you won't have to do a lot of physical work that may strain your back / neck. Use your mind!

Ironically, some people feel "less stressed", when they're working at something useful and productive, even if it is "fast-paced". Some stress is caused, when we feel life is passing us by....

You have more emotional strength than you probably realize. You are a thoughtful and caring person -- try to brainstorm, and think about how you might use your talents!

I have been thinking about stress why we have it and if it really helps, I realised that I was always assuming that the natural state humans should be in is relaxed, with out worry. But when you think about it we are not made to be ‘relaxed’ we were built to survive and maybe then stress (even though it doesn’t feel good) is our natural state.
I think its the same with happiness we all assume happy is our natural state but what if its not what if were meant to be sad most of the time and happy some when you look at it this way it takes the pressure off, you don’t have to be happy and relaxed to be normal just accept stress and pain as natural and try to find peace with that.

I'd say you were an adrenalin/tension junkie. get a job doing something, even volunteering, before you go crazy, or take up a hobby, or get a pet. Do what you enjoy, experiment if you have to.

your job was a very stressful one.
nice soothing baths with candles and soothing music will relax your body and mind.
maybe cuddle up on the couch and watch your favorite movie.
or take naps on and off.
read a good book
or get involved with one of your favorite hobbies.
