No solution...how people are getting answers to this is trippin me out...but technically if you go by order of operations and distributing your numbers as such technically you get the answer 0=7 which isn't true. SO...even if you reasonably found a way to find x without working on the problem. (in other words thinking what number could possibly fit in there to make this statement true.) It's not gonna happen. So there is no solution...that's the answer.

ALSO, now if you just possibly typed the problem wrong...like it's actually just (notice it's not "-"4). 4(2x-3)=-8x+5...then you're lookin at an actual answer.
4(2x-3)=-8x+5
8x-12=-8x+5
16x=17
x=17/16

-4(2x-3)=-8x+5
-8x+12=-8x+5
-8x+7=-8x
7=0

First you need to multiply the -4 into the (2x-3), because brackets mean that you multiply the number in the front by everything inside. Now you have:

-8x + 12 = -8x + 5

Now, you need to get the x's together, and the plain numbers together, so you subtract the -8x to one side (I'll go to the right), and move the +5 to the other side (that means it goes to the left). Now we have:

7 = x

The -8's cancelled out, leaving us with just x, and when we subtract the 5 from the 12 we get 7. Got it? Hope that makes sense for you!

Simplifying
-4(2x + -3) = -8x + 5

Reorder the terms:
-4(-3 + 2x) = -8x + 5
(-3 * -4 + 2x * -4) = -8x + 5
(12 + -8x) = -8x + 5

Reorder the terms:
12 + -8x = 5 + -8x

Add '8x' to each side of the equation.
12 + -8x + 8x = 5 + -8x + 8x

Combine like terms: -8x + 8x = 0
12 + 0 = 5 + -8x + 8x
12 = 5 + -8x + 8x

Combine like terms: -8x + 8x = 0
12 = 5 + 0
12 = 5

Solving
12 = 5

It's an untrue statement. Using the distributive property, -4(2x-3) = -8x+12.

-4(2x-3)= -8x+5
-8x+12= -8x+5
+8x . . . .+8x
12=5
This equation is impossible because when you solve it, you get 12=5, and 12 obviously doesn't equal 5. Are you sure you didn't make a mistake when you were typing out this problem? Maybe it's just like that...

james. multiply the brackets on the left hand side first. Careful with the minus sign.
-8x+12=-8x+5
Hang on a minute, how can something plus 12 be the same as the same thing plus plus 5?? there is no answer - the expression was false.

2x - 3 = (-8x + 5) / -4

2x - 3 = 2x -1.25 Cannot be done this way.

If you mean -4(2 TIMES -3) it can be done as follows:
-4 (-6) = -8x +5
24 = -8x + 5
19 = -8x
x = 19/-8 = -2.375

false...
distributive property means you take -4 times -2x and -3 sperately

-4(2x+3)=-8x-12
