I have a question...If you buy a bootlegged DVD online, can you get into serious trouble?

It's possible.
You always have to be careful of what you buy, and from where, online or off.
Besides the risk of getting into trouble, you run the risk of paying a lot of money for a DVD that might be trash.
I would seriously advise against buying a "copy" of a movie from any site or store you do not know or trust.

im assuming you can if you get caught,
besides why would u BUY a bootlegged dvd, i would suggest dont get anywhere near that site or any bootlegged dvd buying

Well, depends on what you call serious. What is it now...10 years and $250,000 fine? Is that serious to you?
But then, the big thing is, you have to be caught. As a rule, the little guy who just copies for their own stash won't get caught. However, if you bulk copy and sell, that is a biggie.

If anything happened, which is somewhere between zero and damn near infinitesimal in chance, they would be charged with running a counterfeit operation.
Odds are nothing would happen to you.
If you're really that concerned the best advice is to download it.
Save the money and make the risk of anything happening even smaller.
