Not necessarily true. When I was in the Air Force, I was a weatherman. We got sent to St. Louis to some air pollution research, which meant sending up mini weather balloons. At night, we sent the balloons up with a small light attached to them so we could track them. We had about 10 teams scattered over St. Louis doing this, and after the first night, the newspapers read that there were all kinds of calls made sighting lights in the sky.

Might be an airplane, heliocopter, or satelite. But to make sure, climb onto your roof, do a dance, take out a megaphone and scream with all of your might "Gweebledorf". If the lights land on your house and aliens come out with a probing gun, then it is definately aliens.

Airplane.

Perhaps, Gary. However, I can't tell you how many times I have had folks at my observatory, see a plane flying overhead with the red and blue blinking and lights and honestly have no clue what it is..."what is that?" When I tell them it's a plane, they seem surprised and disappointed.
