Same thing--a "beard" is just someone who helps you keep a secret, any secret. Like a fake beard disguising your identity.

I've never heard of the term 'beard' for a woman used to hiding a gay man's true sexuality...
Very interesting - I don't know what a lesbian's boyfriend would be called.
But I do think its a crummy reflection on our society that anyone needs to express or hide their sexual predilictions.
Great question - interested in seeing how this plays out.

Urban Dictionary defines it: "Any opposite sex escort taken to an event in an effort to give a homosexaul person the apperance of being out on a date with a person of the opposite sex."

PEOPLE... I think they know "beard" is not gender specific!!
If i were a lesbian and I had a boyfriend, I'd call him my PURSE!!
Oddly... that's not as humorous as I'd thought it'd be.

Why would a lesbian have a boyfriend? I thought they were called lesbians because they like girls.

I never heard of that and I am lesbian. Sounds like another straight urban legend to me.
