coincidence/chance or do you believe that everything happens for a reason? Can they be mutually exclusive?

Meaninglessness is the essence of the universe. A car pulls out at a yellow light and kills a child, or it doesn't. Either way, no one is watching, no one cares.

There can be reason in the world. But it does not come from an extraplanar source, it comes from you and me. The meaning that you will find in your life comes from the human beings that you will interact with. And if you look closely, you will find power in the smallest of your actions.

I believe in everything apensfor a reason but when you think about it and u need to make a decision u might pick the wrong thing because of thinking that way but then you might have thought that for a reason so it is really confusing. But there is coincidence and chance too.

I happen to hate when someone tells me, "well, everything happens for a reason" when something horrible has happened (like a loved one has died or a dog is struck by a car). Whether things happen for a reason or not, I think we should avoid saying that phrase to people who are in terrible distress. When I was 13 years old my best friend's father died suddenly and the minister of the church came over and I watched as he said to my friend, "all things happen for a reason".... well, as soon as he was gone my friend had a total melt down which I sat patiently watching. That was years ago and I still remember it as if it was yesterday. I vowed I would never say those words to someone in distress, ever.

However.... on a more philosophical note, there can be something good that comes out of even the most horrific event. And, that could be considered having "reason". But, I think it requires a person to contemplate the situation, determine there is some good in the consequence and deem it so. And, for that reason, I am inclined to believe that things "just happen" and those of us who can make lemon-aide out of lemons tend to believe there is reason, good luck or even a predestined plan that caused our good fortune. It is a way to overcome the horror of an earlier consequence to relate a positive result to the bad event. That, is human nature, I believe.

Coincidence is two things happening at or about the same time . Perhaps you mean happenstance, the random occurrence of things? Eastern cultures teach predestination, we are as we are because it has been fore told. It is one of the reasons you see such things as the cast system in India (not to pick on India, it's just one of many examples) and the lack of charity and helping of other human being. In western cultures, partially due to the advent of Christianity, we are taught that we are endowed with free will and the ability to choose our own path. It also teaches that things happen for a reason and that these reasons are test of our moral character. We can alter our lives to make the best of a bad situation or allow ourselves to sweep down the current of life and allow circumstance dictate our lives.

Everything happens for a reason, either by chance, coincidence, or external guidance. Good Luck!!!

Unfortunately reason is an abstract concept, and depending upon your own definition could include every possible happening. It was reasonable to believe the world was flat until we had a reason to believe it was not.

I used to think some things are accidental and later I would learn that I had learned something from the incident. Now I believe nothing is accidental. Some things are by are own cause; others because some higher power wants us to learn from this event.

I'd like not to believe that things happen for a reason that would mean we are just pons in a game, puppets. But again I as ahuman would like to reasonthat things just didn't happen but that there is a higher power providing justice and rule. How about you?

i think that fate determins the big picture, but chance decides how it happens. like fate might say that your going to go to Vegas and earn $10000 in some way. chance will decide whether u win it all at first, or lose some first, or if u just find $10000 on the road or something.
