learning to play the drums?

I love music so much and that would be a dream to be able to play the drums like in a metal band but I have no experience and I want to know some tips on learning to play well. I thought about buying an eletric drum set so that way i could play and you can just listen in the headphones so no one else hears and doesn't bother people but do you think it'd be better to get a regular set first? Also should I Hire a teacher to teach me how to plaY? any information or advice would be appreciated.

If you're gonna do it, do it right. take lessons, learn to read music. take your time and learn as much as you can.
I'm a guitar player, but never learned to read music. I wish i would have done it differently.
