The egg. An egg laid by a bird that wasn't a chicken was fertilized by another bird that wasn't the same as the one that laid the egg, but also wasn't a chicken, and the resulting genetic combination produced the first chicken.
That's a complete answer to your question, which has been asked millions of times before as though it is some great mystery. Isn't it about time you looked at the real answer and got past this question?
Ask me a harder one, like where did everything else come from, and what is first.

As a matter of fact and if you are serious about your question! I can tell you that it is an argumentative question! leads to no where but an old inquiry about where god came from! In my religion it is not preferable to ask such questions! But for myself and out of being a typical human, who is very curious; I think that I found an answer that fits my simple and small life, that is nothing but a small fragment of the universe! The answer is; the egg came before! because I was not there when the source was created!The chicken that I see must has come from an egg, and the source before all of that is bigger than the vicious circle that I run through trying to find the end of the chain that was created by all creatures and only one creator!

the chicken I believe. Just like Adam and Eve....they came first as an adult then gave birth. Eggs can't hatch without the chicken, but chicken can just suddenly be made by the Maker.

It has to be the chicken. There would be no hen to sit on the egg and keep it warm so it can hatch if the egg came first.

THE EGG CAME FIRST. THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED. An animal layed an egg and in the egg the baby was deformed. the deformed baby mated and layed another deformed baby out of an egg. the deformed baby is now a chicken whos about to die at the hands of a farmer and his axe.

The egg came first.
It was laid by a dinosaur, and it was supposed to be a baby dinosaur, but it was demented and once it hatched, it grew up and started laying eggs everywhere of its own kind.
