Preteens don't really need cell phones. Consider making the kid go without until he/she is able to make enough money to buy his/her own phone.

I reccomend the Wherifone, you can buy it at Toys 'R Us for preteens. It's a nice little phone.

PRE-TEENS: The Wherifone is a great “First Phone” for pre-teens. The small, compact design is a perfect fit for kids, and comes in a variety of great colors that will make them the envy of the neighborhood. The phone’s five pre-programmable buttons let kids stay in touch with close family and friends, or summon help with one-touch dialing -- while letting parents manage outbound call costs. The Wherifone’s Enhanced GPS location technology also lets parents, caregivers and safety officials quickly locate a child in need of help, bringing peace-of-mind
and added safety to the mobile family.

None. Why the heck does a preteen need a cell phone? Does your preteen have a separate landline?

ooh, then the "preteen" needs a firefly. Or, what I like is tmobiles kidconnect, but they are pricy, the child doesn't need a dumb firefly, it will embarass them more to have that crap then to not have a phone at all. kidconnect is not as bad as a firefly.
