I know what you mean. When you mention a problem to a woman, they sympathize, but dont neccessarily jump into action. If you tell a man, they always have this need to act and make it better. They take it as a quest or challenge they need to accomplish. Its partly that through time, its been the mans job to act. To hunt, work, fight, find, get and protect their woman and children. Women on the otherhand have often been passive creatures. It is also partly the fact that many men are uncomfortable with or unaccustomed to dealing with emotional matters, to just talking about a problem in order to make it better and just being a shoulder to cry on rather than an arm to hold a sword. They have to act because to just listen or understand would be seen as unmanly. Its culture, its history, its instinct and sometimes its neccesity. As much as I loath giving each gender their own place, often a man needs to push a woman to act and a woman has to remind a man to slow down and think. Ying and yang. And thats all ok, as long as we can also accept those who dont fit this mold.

Men evolved to perform single function activites and to concentrate heavily on that one activity. Hunting, for example, requires intense concentration. You can't be thinking of lots of other activities while focused on the game animal or you and your family starves.
Women, on the other hand, are charged with duties that require multi-tasking to a far greater extent. Rearing children, in and of itself, requires the ability to perform several functions at the same time at a competent level. Even women who do not have children have this enhanced ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time with a high level of competence.
I think the answer to your question lies in the genetic make up of our different genders.
As a woman living with a man, I am constantly reminded of the male's inability to multi-task at the same level as I can. I simply accept this difference, for my husband can do other things better than I can that don't require multi-tasking. Life requires accpetanace of individual differences and a give and take attitude.

Because they're -men-.
See, in the wild, whichever male animal conquers the other is the one who survives and procreates. Therefore, the supposedly advanced human male suffers from the same problem. All of life is a 'my dick's bigger than your dick' contest just because of some genetic, instinctive imperative from millenia of evolution.
And there you have it.

One word - - - testosterone.
Everything is about demonstrating one's adequacy and dominance, and thus acquiring more breeding chances.
No, gayness doesn't matter in this issue.
Reasonably one might think that it would, but humans are not reasonable, rather,, rationalizing.
