My cousin bought some clothes online once and they came smelly, not stinky. I was wondering, because I want to get some "Web Busters" from Aeropostale. Thanks!

They shouldn't smell at all, if they do it is probably from the packaging and the smell should go away in a few hours.

They shouldn't. They should actually smell better than buying them from the stores because they probably came straight from a warehouse (or wherever they keep clothes) and weren't tried on by other people.

If the clothes your friend bought were used or previously owned (ex: she bought them on Ebay) then that might make sense.

I've ordered from Aeropostale and my clothes smelled fine. You can always wash them too if you want to get any warehouse-y smells out.

Could have been mold or transport odor, mold is when the item is damp and them sealed and heated to preserve to inhibit mold growth but it's there so it smells musty- return for refund you will never wash it out and it can cause skin irritation even after several washings. Transport odor is caused by fumes from the truck, other items in the pay load (can be anything from flowers to garlic for a short run at high pay to the trucker, your item just happened to be close to it) and usually washes right out, no worries. Wash it and enjoy.

I buy clothes online all the time and they have never "smelled". They may smell like new fabric, but I would have to stick my nose in them to notice. If your cousin bought them on E-Bay from a private person, they may indeed have smelled.

The clothes might have smelled like plastic or something... just make sure you buy from a reputable retailer and not a person on ebay or something... so if they smell too bad then you can return them. I doubt you will have this problem- your friend had a rare circumstance.

All of the clothing I have purchased online (and that is a TON) have always just smelled the same as if they were purchased in the store. Nothing funny, just normal.

Why would the smell? Maybe smell "new" like all clothes you buy from a store, but you just wash them anyways before you wear them because you never know who tried them on and that would be gross.

Most don't, mine never do. It probably depends on the packageing or the way they deliver it. Try not to leave them outside or in the cold. If they do smell put them on a no heat setting and a couple of fabric softner sheets in the dryer!! Hope it helps!!
