No, sometimes people like gift cards or money because they don't really "want" anything but it would be nice to just shop at a store and pick out some stuff, or they can buy household products they need, say if you get one from Target. My grandma always gave me money on Christmas because she didn't know what I wanted. When your older, and if they live farther away, money is sometimes the easier route. But if your super close to this person/people, try getting them something small yet rewarding and that has some meaning since it is Christmas afterall.

Personally I would prefer that you gave me nothing at all vs. getting me a gift just for the sake of getting me one. So if you feel the need to give me something, then by all means make it money.
Its not that I don't like getting gifts as much as I hate having a pile of "novelty" gifts that consist of crap that I will never use. I am never going to use the "AM/FM radio, flashlight, bottle opener, body mass index measurer" combination when I keep a couple of good flashlights in the house as well as some other emergency supplies. I am never going to use the $20 tool set that has every single type of screwdriver, drill bit, and wrench in it because those tools are completely useless. I'd rather have the money.

At one time I think it was considered maybe rude with some families, and maybe to a much lesser degree now. But I don't know anyone who doesn't want money. Times are hard, and you can pick what you want. IF you don't want to send money get a gift card there are gift cards from Mickey D down to Walmart, JC Penny's, most grocery stores, and even some high ended stores...so money or gift card..Don't worry if your relatives don't want it...adopt me...I do! (Smile Send the moolah!

In the past, this might be consider rude, but currently it is more practical. Then, they can buy what they like or need, and not ended up with gifts that they don't like or need - especially for those that you don't gather often enough to understand their likes and dislikes.
I personally would welcome the idea, sometimes by pooling the money I received, I could get something I really wanted, which might be too expensive a gift to expect from an individual.

Heck no. If they send you a check you can cash them and buy what you want when it's available and cheaper as in after Christmas sales.Everyone hates gifts they either have to return or won't use at all. Ask ahead of time for a particular gift certificate(s) if you can.No one likes duplicate gifts either except for money.

Send a gift card to a particular store. To me, that is more personable than just cash.
If I was to receive money for Christmas, it would not bother me one little bit. If you are on the receiving end for some cash, who is going to complain???

If someone you know is down on their luck a gift of money is the best present possible. Not rude at all—extremely helpful gifts are the best kind.

Everyone loves money! And if they say they don't, they're lying. Especially Kids. It makes them feel grown-up to get money or gift cards for X-mas. But if you get gift cards, be careful to get them cards to places they like. Every year, my aunt gives me a gift card to a store and it's a store I don't even care for. I end up going out of my way to shop at a store I don't even like.
