California. Aside from movies, good wine, citrus, and microchips they don't really add much to the country. Mostly it is highly influential politically even though its population does not represent an accurate cross section of the avg. American. Besides we can make movies anywhere, wine can be grown other places and microchips are made overseas anyways.

It all depends upon what you mean by remove. If the selected state is removed does something new take its place? If so what?
Do the neighboring states expand and take over the property? Is there just desolation left? The boundaries are still there, but the region is not habitable? Without answers, this is a very foolish question. If I COULD remove any of the 50 states, I would choose not to exercise that capability.
If I were FORCED to remove a state, I would probably pick a state that had the the least population and /or the smallest land area, and the one that contributed least to the country. I'm not sure which state that would be, but it would also have to be a state that is land-locked (has no seaports).

What kind of job interview question is that? Well if you have to have an answer ill give it to ya. Alaska-it is so far away and it could be its own country. It is nothing like the rest of the states.

This sounds like a trick question. Any one of the states could be your interviewer's childhood home, and picking one would definitely betray your prejudices, like the answerer above who doesn't like the Clintons. That's not the sort of info you want your interviewer to know, because they might be on the I Love Hillary board of directors.

I cannot imagine an interviewer asking this. Have you actually encountered this,or did you read it in one of those "ultimate job interview questions" books?
Personally, I could do without Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.

Wyoming. It has virtually no industry. No commercial value to the rest of the states. It's lack of population is evidence that it is not relavant to American society on the whole.

Well i would say Virginia,
But more im actually here you argue with the one who said Wyoming because it has no industry,.....have you ever heard of coal?
Wyoming is the top coal-producing state—it produced about 400 million tons in 2004. and since coal generates about half of all power in the US, i'd say thats pretty important.
