+90° rotation (ie 90° anticlockwise)
A = (0, -5) → (-5, 0)
B = (1, 9) → (-9, 1)
C = (8, 9) → (-9, 8)
D = (-3, -1) → (1, -3)

-90° rotation (ie 90° clockwise)

A = (0, -5) → (5, 0)
B = (1, 9) → (9, -1)
C = (8, 9) → (9, -8)
D = (-3, -1) → (-1, 3)

Rotating 1/4 turn clockwise will move the point (x,y) to the point
(y, -x). Try it graphically, for example start with (3,1) in the first quadrant. The first quarter-turn will move it to (1,-3)... another quarter-turn will take it to (-3,-1)... then to (-1, 3)... and back to (3,1).

Is it rotated clockwise 90 degrees or counterclockwise?

If it is rotated clockwise, use the formulas xnew = yold, ynew = -xold.

If it is rotated counterclockwise, xnew = -yold, ynew = xold.
