Hi, about an hour ago I started getting intense burning pain and UTI symptoms. I have had bladder infections before, so I'm sure that's what it is. Obviously I can't get to the doctor until Monday, so what can I do in the meantime to treat my infection at home? What's better- cranberry juice itself or the tablets? Please tell me any home remedies you have that will provide me relief, and will also help prevent the UTI from getting worse or more advanced in the next couple days. :(

Go to the urgent care or the after hours clinic, its only 10 on the east coast and most cities have something open. if that cant be avoided then drink cranberry juice and lots of water don't drink cranberry juice cocktail. Avoid sugar as the more sugar in your urine the more the bacteria will grow. the more acidic your urine, hence the cranberry juice the less the bacteria progresses, for the pain use hot water bottle. good luck.

There are pills you can buy at the pharmacy that stop the burning sensation. They're neat because they turn your pee to a bright orange color. While they don't cure the UTI, they really do help with the pain until you can get to the doctor.

Avoid caffeine and spicy foods, and wear cotton undies only. No tight pants (you don't want camel toes anyway). Always wipe front to back. You might want to start taking the cranberry pills on a daily basis since you're prone to UTIs and drink the cranberry juice this weekend. I sadly swore off thongs with the exception of special occasions because I used to get them all the time and was unwilling to cut down on soft drinks.

Are you old enough to use a low dose birth control pill? Once I started taking the pill, I noticed that I didn't get UTIs anymore. I think the regularity of your hormones might help (or it might just be in my head).

Good luck!

Drink a lot of the cranberry juice, other juices and water to flush the bladder. You'll probably have to stay near the bathroom but keeping the fluid going through your urinary system will get rid of some of the bacteria. But remember, when irrigating your urinary system, you need to replace the electrolytes that are lost in the flushing by drinking mostly fruit juices. Drink the water in between glasses of juice. Also, make sure you are urinating all the fluids your are taking in and not retaining them. If you are, stop drinking.

Some people do not know that regular cheap cranberry juice is not what you need. Buy Northlands cranberry juice it cost about 4 bucks in the grocery store, the name may be wrong but you will see it in the juice aisle it is 100% cranberry juice. Drink plenty of water and do not hold your urine. If it gets worst go to the ER.

alright i get UTI's all the time. its not about cranberry juice OR tablets; its about both. go to CVS or riteaid or any drug store and go to the diet/pill supplement section and get the cranberry tablets; anything will work. buy about 3 big cranberry juices and drink one entire thing as soon as you can. take one cranberry tablet with that. wash real good and make cranberries your way of life for the next couple days. feel better!!

cranberry juice and uristat definatly. don't have sex, cause that can aggrevate your general area (the vagina itself isin't really involved in a UTI but all the friction, heat and other fluids can aggrevate it). Bath a lot. Warm showers and baths help. I know it sounds so gross, but fill the tub up so that your lower body is covered, sit there, and if you feel like your gonna pee - try. sometimes the warm water and the peeing can help wash the bacteria out on its own. just keep refilling with new clean warm water

If you call your docs answering service they can have your doc call you and usually they will call in a script right away to get you through until you can get into the office, also, tons of water and cranberry juice and stay away from acidic foods, ie orange or citris fruits and juices, tomato products, etc... they keep the stinging down a bit, but I would call the answering service.

i recently had a uti, and my mom asked about the cranberry juice thing. and the doc said it doesnt help cure/calm it. it only helps prevent them. so the cranberry juice won't help. you should go see a doc like asap, depending on how bad it is. umm and drink a lot of water, it helps make the bacteria less concentrated so it won't hurt so much when u pee. so lots of water/fluids, and a doctor.

I would suggest the juice as opposed to the pills...that will force you to DRINK! Lots of fluids. Tylenol or motrin may help with the pain. But, the main thing is keep well hydrated...a glass per hour at least...the less concentrated your urine is, the less pain you should have. Definitely water and cran juice.
Good luck!
