You may have the cables hooked up backwards. Modern cars run on a 12 volt negative ground system. If you have the negative and positive cables reversed the car won't run.
It is also possible you blew one or more of the fuses if you shorted out the system at any time.

Are the lights dim? That almost sounds to me like:

1) You installed a dead battery...
2) One of the battery leads is loose or corroded...

It just seems like it's not getting any juice.

Were your old cables badly rusted? This would be an indication that you should buy new battery leads. Don't worry, if you need them, they're cheap!

Sounds like there's not enough voltage in the battery to run the car. Did you buy a new battery? Can you use jumper cables to start it? Do the headlights come on and are they their normal brightness? Radio play? Could be a bad battery cable connection.

dead battery or you hit a connector or something with the battery going in or out, most likely the second. Or you might've arched installing or removing the cables and blew some fuses.
