i own a repair shop, and unfortunately your right they do become something of a disposal item, and they can be recycled ,but people don't think to much about it right now,but some day its going to come back and bite us all in the butt for what we have done to the environment,i have a company that picks, all my old ones up,and recycles them, but most shops will just throw them away ,so sooner or later were going to have to pay the price for it,they wont rot away like ordinary metals do they,ll be there one hundred years from now,but you bring up a good point there ,and everyone needs to wake up,and realize what you do today will come back on you tomorrow,,good question there,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

You can remove any muffler / just don't drive the vehicle on any road. The muffler serves 2 Purposes, to quieten the combustion noises / but as well - it maintains a certain compression ratio. If you remove your muffler alone / your performance most likely will suffer. If you just want to make noise Buy a thrush muffler / or get a spike and a hammer, and punch some holes in the muffler.

The old catalytic converters are normally exchanged when a new one is bought. The old one returns to the manufacturer who recover and recycle the expensive metals that are in it.
