The 24 hour system is very nice. You don't get AM and PM mixed up and there are 24 hours in a day. When its midnight some people think of it as 12 PM. The new day starts at 0:00 instead of 12:00 AM. I think the 12 Hr. clock system is confusing some times.

Originally it was only 24 hours clocks but for convenience sake people Divide the full day of 24 hours into two parts day and night each measuring 12 hours. Accordingly the clocks were made and it has come for use permanently.

However in Train, air and some other systems the denotation of time is made in 24 hours basis only.-

Without going back to Babylonia and the Sumerians, the day was divided into two to seperate day and night. This worked out as 12 hours each (even though only two days a year are exactly 12 hours light and dark). So the tradition of having the day split into two 12 hour parts was born there.

That tradition has been handed down for thousands of years and why we were taught that.

The more efficent 24 hour system would require a bit of work on the older generation to use, however, the children would not have any more of a problem learning it then they do learning the 12 hour system (it may even be easier for the children).

However, the children do not run the world and the older people who do will stick with the 12 hour system out of habit and sceam that it would cost to much to change the clocks and other devices that keep time.

24 hour clocks work in any time zone. E.g., it is 1917 as I write this, in the Pacific time zone. What people can do is put the letter for the time zone after the numbers. This is must often done for Zulu time - the time zone of the Greenwich meridian in London, England. It used to be called GMT, but, is not Universal Time. So, 1917 here is 0317z. The Zulu (the little "z") makes the time standard for the whole world. Military, airlines, and a lot of other agencies use Zulu time. But, you can use 24 hour time anywhere. If you visit Quebec, the parking signs are all 24 hour - e.g., parking is allowed from 20h00 to 08h00 (they put the h in the middle). That means, you can park from 8 in the evening, until 8 in the morning, local time (Eastern).

I like the 24 hour clock or military time better as well. Like you said there is no confusion. However some people aren't going to catch on because they have to stop and think about it.
