The answer is 9/10. You have to find the common denominator of each fraction, which is 20. So where it is 2/5, it's now 8/20. Where is is 2/4, it's now 10/20.Add those up and get 18/20. You can break that down by dividing by 2. That's how you will get 9/10.

Get the denominator to 20 for each of them.....

So 2/5 becomes 8/20 and 2/4 becomes 10/20

add 8 and 10.....the numerator becomes 18

it's 18/20, which reduces to 9/10

9/10. Lowest common denominator is 20. 5 goes into 20 4x, so 2/5 becomes 8/20ths. 4 goes into 20 5x, so 2/4 becomes 10/20.
10+8=18 18/20 = 9/10ths.

(You can also reduce 2/4 to 1/2 & come up lowest common denominator of 10, right off the bat. 5 goes into 10 2x, 2 goes into 10 5x, etc.)
