water doesn't actually repel from toothpaste. It is absorbed. The toothpaste absorbs the water very quickly, making it disappear. This looks like the water is repelling from it, but that is just an illusion.


If you look at the ingredients in toothpaste, the first one listed is water. If toothpaste repelled water the toothpaste would separate itself in the tube, which would lead to you brushing your teeth with nasty gunk.

Hmm..good question? If you think about it, water only attracts to something if that item is absorbant. I guess toothpaste isn't absorbant?

it is made of enamel just like our teeth (well there is enamel on our teeth) and that is why toothpaste doesnt stick to our teeth or the sink in the bathroom.
