If it is fraudulently used, the flag will alert authorities.

The one person was correct, a surviving spouse, may draw on that person's benefits, using that number...but it has a D assigned behind it to designate (Deceased)...the survivor can continue to drawn benefits against that number or if and when they become eligible under their own number, which ever benefit is more, the other number becomes obsolete..........thank you

They reuse them because some of my younger girlfriends can have social security number that are lower than mine and I'm 15 years older than they are.

no the government recycles it... my friend got a new social last year and every credit card she applied for turned out to be ch deceased .. she had to clear it herself ..
