have been to both and it was hard to choose, so i did the next best thing, moved to a town that was central to both choices so i only had to drive a bit to be able to go to either choice!

I have only visited both on the west coast. In northern California is a beautiful redwood forest, the 101 hwy goes up the coast to Oregon and beyond. It rains a lot but it beautiful.
The southern California Beach's are nice a bit crowded and the food is great there.
The mountains in the west are prone to wild fires but during the summer it is cooler and the winters they have snow and snow related things to do.
They both have things to offer if you live in the basin of So.Ca. you can get to either with a 2 to 3 hour drive.

I have lived at the beach and loved it, but I got over it. I moved back to the mountains, where I grew up.
I like the mountains as I like to hike. My girlfriend feels the same.
