In 1953, Pete Seeger came to Toronto and taught The Travellers This Land but told them the song was blacklisted from airplay as were pete and Woody. Pete asked The Travellers to create a version that would get airplay until the political situation in the U.S. changed for the better. The Travellers wrote the Canadian version the following year and sang it on 25 TV shows in Canada with those words and during 1967 sang it at 186 concert appearances across Canada during its Centennial year. I should know as I am the only remaining Traveller left and still performing and lecturing as of July 1, 2015.
