In a tri-color cartridge the carts are divided into 3 inside, so you need to drill a hole into each subsection and refill each subsection separately.

Have a look around this site,

Thats where I learnt from. But, a couple of 'wrinkles' .. you will find that each tank (there will be 3) has a breather hole for that tank. to be sure waht colour ink to use, push a thin cocktail stick into your drilled hole, check the colour. When you go to fill, push your needle deep in, twist 1/4 turn then allow the ink to gravity fill (I used a syringe with no plunger for this move) Only put in enough ink to 1/2 fill, in case there is ink left. The logic behind this 'gravity fill' is that you do not want air bubbles.
Having said all this, I gave up refilling carts, found even cheaper option,

Wonderful system, worth throwing your current printer in the bin, you save so much on ink its cost effective to get a new printer and get a CFS.

Why might you desire to? maximum printers have a putting in properties to apply basically the black ink or to print gray scale. in case you place black ink interior the colour cartridge you will possibly get some very unusual outcomes in case you tried to print something yet text fabric.
