How old is your son? Why do you want to stop?? It's so good for the baby. Please reconsider. Maybe you could just do a bottle feeding every once in a while to give yourself a little break.

Okay - that said, I'll answer your question now. If you truly want to switch to bottle feedings, you need to try to slowly start to introduce a bottle and slow start to wean him from the breast. You can't quit cold turkey because he probably wont' have any idea what's going on, if he doesn't like the bottle he'll just scream because he's hungry. So, start slow, play around with different bottle/nipple combos to see which ones he likes best, and ask your pediatrician what formula they recommend.

I have recently been diagnosed with a health issue that requires me to stop nursing my 7 month old son soon. (The medication that I need to take hinders me from breast feeding) I read in an article that breast milk tastes "sweeter" than formula. (sorry, can't find it to share) But the article suggests slowly weening from the breast a feeding at a time over several weeks, and in the beginning adding a touch of corn syrup to the formula to give it a hint of sweetness. Once he is used to the bottle and formula, taper the syrup out of the formula. Worked well for me. I started with about half a teaspoon for 5 ounces of formula. Make sure to prepare the formula first and add the syrup at the end.

I know how important it is to breast feed our children for as long as possible, but sometimes it's just not possible. Hope this helps.

You don't say how old your son is...It is a lot better for the baby if you are nursing. Maybe it is your job that you need to go back to? Usually you can take some time off. When that time is up you can pump and still do what is best for your baby. There are so many positive effects that baby's have from breast feeding. I am thinking health right now. The baby is more secure that is my opinion. The baby doesn't get sick as easy as he is getting natural antibodics from you. The baby doesn't get as many earaches usually as opposed to a baby that is bottle fed. Please reconsider your decision on whether to breastfeed or not to breastfeed. Hope this helps you.

Just give him the bottle but to lessen engorgement and make it easier on you it would be good to pump milk and do it slowly. Switching from a breast to a bottle is normaly not too hard but the reverse is harder like from the bottle back is harder so make sure its truly what you desire to do. Best Luck to you.
