The actual hobby should be your choice. The more successful hobbies are those that pay off, not only in personal satisfaction but also in money that can support more of the hobby. For an example: a man builds an old fashioned radio with a nice wooden cabinet-- he then sells it to buy more materials to build more radios. He is doing what he loves to do and yet provides a beautifully crafted radio to his customers.
You can do this kind of hobby even if you have to invest to do it, because it pays in return. This is only an idea. Check with a local hobby shop to see what might be "hot" in your area, then take your pick from the list.

How about doing some volunteer work ? Then you do it for free, you choose the type of activity you do and you get to feel good about it as well :)
eg - play games with old people, help out at St Vinnies (get to meet people as well), play a musical instrument - for yourself, for people in hospital, busking etc.
I hope you find something you enjoy!

a good hobby is something that you can't wait to get home from work to do
other than walking they are all going to cost something
what about a musical instrument - you could buy one 2nd hand
cardmaking is cheapish if you recycle your materials
swimming if you take out an annual membership
or you can go walking / running anywhere at anytime for freeeee
