well Larry Coker in his first 3 years as head coach won a national championship and was very effective...in the last three he has slipped to a near .500 record despite the talent of the players

What you did last year or several years ago does not matter in College Football. It is all about what you do now. Coker was fired primarily because Miami was not winning. His program also had player problems on and off the field which would have been overlooked had he been winning.
Questionable recruits and lack of player discipline caught up with UM. Was Coker to blame? Maybe not all of it, but he is the Head Coach and someone has to be held accountable.
So much pressure is put on coaches to win. It is all about winning at any cost. Football represents so much money to the University. Sooner or later all college programs have off seasons and have to retool. Coker may have been a great coach and a great guy, but the pressure to win caused him (like so many other coaches) to look the other way and recruit questionable athletes. Coker lost control of his program and the athletes. Miami has to compete for talent with Florida and Florida State. This adds to the pressure of winning. Even the fans and alumni at Florida State have demanded that Bowden be fired. Its a rough business. Coker got a $3 million buy out so he is not hurting except for maybe his pride. He will bounce back somewhere.

He WAS?????
Good now Miami might become respectable again.
The link below pretty much sums it up.
And I would not call him a scapegoat after that assassined brawl with a Fifth rate not even worthy of a college team Florida International. He should of been fired after that disgrace. and the team should not even accecpt a playoff bid because of it.

one word.. Scapegoat!
miami demands success.. 6-6 is not good enough.. someone has to pay the price.. firing the coach is always the first solution teams try.. it's not really fair, just reality.
coker is a great coach and a great person. i'm sure he will land another good coaching job as soon as he is ready to coach again.

his first three years went well because he had players recruited by the former coaching staff...since then his team has been plagued by misfortune and tragedy and anger management issues...his players are frustrated and in trouble off the field and on the sidelines and on the field...out of control spiral...facilities need to be upgraded to compete for recruits...other teams have upgraded and worked on cohesive coaching staffs with gentlemen players who stay out of jail/legal troubles...recruits are hard to find for a team with a recent past of trouble...not very attractive
