Year Round Weather In Tennessee

2016-11-14 22:05:21 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Knoxville's weather is characterized as "humid subtropical".

This means that it has hot and humid summers, and cool to slightly cold winters. Spring and fall are warm.

The maximum average high occurs in July, at 88F. The minimum average high occurs in January, at 47F.

As far as precipitation is concerned, Knoxville is extremely wet, receiving approximately 50 inches of rain equivalent per year. Precipitation is fairly evenly spread throughout the year, with fall being slightly drier than the other seasons, but still rather wet.

Snow occurs reliably but infrequently. Average yearly snowfall is under 1 foot. Ice storms, however, are a problem in the area.

Knoxville's high precipitation is mostly due to the fact that it is windward of the Appalachian Mountains. As moisture flows northward from the Gulf of Mexico and is pushed eastwards by cold fronts, rain is dropped on the land as elevation increases. Going even closer to the mountains, in towns such as Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN, precipitation is even higher, reaching around 60 inches per year.

The weather in Knoxville changes. It is not year round.

Are you asking about the climate for each season?
