Also how is this different from being a province inside of Canada?

I foresee a couple of problems with this.

1) what about all the non-"Quebecois" living in Quebec - by this I mean anglophones, immigrants, natives, etc. Would they have to identify with the "Quebec" nation or ELSE?

2) what about all the francophones living outside of Quebec who identify with the Quebecois due to language but with Canada because of their geographical location. Would they be abandoned by the Quebecois?

Seems like we're stuck with the idea of "two nations, side by side" as Mr. Harper is stating (although, I wish we could just leave this doggone issue alone already!!! but if the Bloc was going to bring it up anyway, I guess he had to say something and a pre-emptive strike is as good as anything).

I think the idea of Quebec nationality is "too little, too late" - it's too late to separate because of pure geography - if they were to create a new nation out of the province of Quebec (outside of Canada, I'm talking now), they would have a whole slough of new problems in Quebec with all the people who didn't want to separate ... special status, "what about me". I don't think they really want to go there. In my opinion, there's a "hard-core" group of francophones in Quebec who descend from the old New France settlers and they are the Quebecois. The rest, sorry to say, are just plain old Canucks like the rest of us.

Just my two cents!

Very little ! Most of Quebec, as in a large majority, currently constitutes a nation in the most classical sense. The current PM is just making talk about this to stir up trouble in Quebec and pretend he is doing something. Many years ago Mr. Harper actually voted against any talk of nations in Canada or Quebec. Harper is inconsistent --moving about like butter on a hot waffle.
The bonus to Mr. Fat Harper is that the frenzied and foolish media discussion of a 'nation inside of Canada' --- will take away attention from both more important ignored and more nefarious issues his fat parliament is doing (not doing).

First the last. It would become a separate nation and various immigration/shipping laws would be in effect. First question, it be a separate nation and limited to its on income, tax base and military. If a person look at America with its financial income of the 50 states, not mentioning provinces, Quebec may find itself with a limited ability to maintain its present economic strength.
Now, with that said, look at America and it's economic strength. Europe has seen and realized, there is strength in numbers and as a result formed the European Union. In the small amount of time the union has existed, the "Euro" is more strong in the world market than the American Dollar.

it is a way of saying quebecios's are a distinct society within canada, using the nation word just settles the issue for some non hardline seperatists.

Nothing will really change though. Unless a referendum on seperation, but with the present government acknowledging the uniqueness of quebec the P.M. just weakened the seperatist movement.

I would mean that there would be unrest in the forest, there would be trouble with the trees, for the maples would want more sunlight and the oaks would ignore their pleas.

In the end, however, they might pass a noble law and the trees would be all kept equal by hatchet, axe and saw.

If you get this, then you understand the meaning. If you don’t then read up on some of your Canadian music history : )

They'll have a hard time with the Indians because they'll want to stay part of Canada.
