1990-1996 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo. 90-92 is what you will mostly find and are some of best years if you want a fast car with a lot of potential. You can find one for about 10k and the rest save for when you need to fix a problem or add more hp.

$10-12k should get you a good second hand Civic (or even an Accord). A used Toyota Corolla or Camry are also good bets for this kind of money. But if you are looking for something brand new, then your choices will be limited to mostly base model sub-compacts from Korea.

honda prelude FTW try getting a 5th gen 97-01, if not some 4th gens from 93-96 came with the H22 motor in them. Yes, 92 did not come with vtec, it was introduced in 93' in the prelude FTW.
And TT 300ZX's for less than 12k? Where do you live man!!! Can't find one here for less than 17k!
