I love sports and I cannot explain why. I don't have a favorite team. I usually root for the underdog. I like to watch the games and I love sports shows where they give highlights. Like I said, I don't know why. I am also a huge racing fan and a big fan of Dale Jr.!!
I don't think I do it because society says I should. I'm a 32 yr. old mother of 3 and I don't think there is any pressure from society for me to watch sports. I just enjoy it.
I also love watching my kids compete. I see parents at events who sit and read. I just can't. I have to watch what is going on. I love seeing how well they do and how much they improve over time. It is really something.

Are you a student of psychology?
Know anything about in-group/out-group?
See any point in watching a game in which your ego is not invested?
Ever watch your kid's game, cousin's game, niece's game?
If not, sorry for you. You'll get it when someone important to you palys, and then you need to feel that again.
Also, it binds families who have been separated over long distances. They'll watch a game, knowing that their loved ones are also watching. And they may speak soon and mention it, or they may not, but just that sense that they have that in common can keep a thing like this going!
PS I could care less for pro sports myself, though my son is a great little travel soccer player. My partner is the one with kids elsewhere who realtes.
Till six months ago, I would have agreed with you.

I support my hometown team, and my racecar (yeah, yeah, I'm a loser). But that's all. I just enjoy watching and I don't always need a favorite.

It gives you a sense of camaraderie with friends. I love to watch sports with old friends, with complete strangers, or with family.
