I hope by a large enough tank you mean over 100 gallons. With turtles it has a lot to do with how much you feed them. Overfeeding will cause them to grow faster but will cause shell deformations. Most people overfeed their turtles because it seems like they are always hungry. In the wild, sliders usually eat dead fish and there is competition with other turtles so they are quick to eat before the others get it all.

Also, RES are water turtles and they can swim. A 100 gallon tank is useless if you only have a few inches of water. Get a canopy hood and fill the tank all the way up.

They should hit about 4" in the next couple of years, then take about 5 years to get close to adult size of 8-10".

If properly cared for, sliders can reach their adult size in a couple years.
