Can we omit the word 'for' in this sentense?

'I didn't know she was an orphan (for) most of my life.'

I don't think either version is very clear. I'd rather the following--For most of my life I didn't know she was an orphan.

I would put it at the beginning of the sentence (optionally):

(For) most of my life, I didn't know she was an orphan.

It depends.

I didn't know she was an orphan most of my life ... indicates that for most of your life she was an orphan. But I didn't know she was an orphan for most of my life ... indicates that I just didn't know she was an orphan most of my life.

Yes you drop the for because most carries the meaning you are looking for.

It can be omitted and still be a correct sentence, but will be less clear.
