No thats not true. Even women who are not pregnant get that line.
Its called the linea alba, and when your hormones are high, such as during pregnancy, or if you just naturally have higher hormones, it becomes dark and is refered to as linea nigra.
Most pregnant women who's linea alba wasnt pigmented darkly before pregnancy dont develop the pigmentation right away, although its different for each women. Typically its not until the second trimester that it shows up.
The only way to tell that you are pregnant is to have tests done. A home pregnancy test can determine if the hormones are present, or have been recently present (in the case of an early miscarriage, or chemical pregnancy). A blood test at the doctor can determine if and how pregnant you are.
Dont believe such stupid things as magical lines or signs that you're pregnant. Some women are perfectly normal until birth.

Ok seriously your friend is a douche. The way you tell you are pregnant or not is a pregnancy test. They don't cost that much and they are pretty accurate. And no matter what people say you don't have to use your first mornings urine if you are pregnant it will show up. and this brown line people speak of only happens wit certain women not all women and it when they get bigger. Not something you will see within a few months. I am sick and tired of hearing about this line. No offense to you.

Someone said the line is called the linea alba - but that's wrong - it's called the linea negra :) Negra is latin for brown or "dark". Fair skinned women tend not to develope this line as often as women with darker skin tones, especially women of hispanic and african descent.
Your friend is wrong though. That's not how you tell if you're pregnant. If you've had sex, and you miss your period, you should take a home pregnancy test which you can buy at any grocery or drug store. You can take the test as soon as you miss your period, read the directions about how to understand the test's result.

No! Alot of woman already have a dark line. The only way you can find out for sure is taking a pregnancy test. All woman are different when it comes to concieving a child and your hormones may not always be on time.

I have been pregnant 3 times and have never got the brown line any of those times.
So, I would say it is not true. Every body is different.

This is not how you tell you are pregnant. This just happens to some women at all different times through pregnancy or it may not happen at all. Your stomach would be large and you would feel the baby move before this point!

Mine showed up when I was 8 months along with my first, and it NEVER showed up with my second. Your friend sounds like she doesn't know what she's talking about. By 8 months you def know your pregnant. Just take a test if you want to know.

I am 28 weeks, and still haven't gotten it. So, that is not true. A pee test or a blood test is the best way to tell.
