It depends on what part of the state. In the south you definately want to go for the east coast. The Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area has plenty to keep people of all ages entertained. In the middle of the state I would suggest the Tampa/St. Petersburg area on the west coast. In the northern part I would suggest Jacksonville on the east coast. The south west coast and the middle parts of the east coast definately have an older crowd. It really depends on what you want, there is a huge cultural difference between south florida and the pan handle for example. Since you are teachers I would think the most important thing is to find a good school system and take it from there. Of course you could always move to the florida keys and have both coasts.

If I have a chance to go back to West Coast, that will be my choice. I spend quite a few years in Barstow, California, but if I had a chance I always traveled, and visit my brother that lived in Oceanside. Have seen Disneyland, L.A. which I don't like that much compared to San Diego. At least for me. San Francisco, Sacramento and other cities are okey. Spend quite a few years in Olympia, Washington and have seen Seattle all the way to British Columbia, Canada. I like the Southside better cause there is no snow compared to Washigton State... East coast is okey during summer time, but winter time is not a good place for me, but I lived here now at least temporarily until I retire--lol-- which is many more more years to come. Colorado Springs, Colorado is one of my favorite city. Beautiful Pikes Peak mountain. I also like the Grand canyon and Las Vegas. Just sight seeing of course.. I don't like gambling. So my choice is West coast. Lastly, welcome back and Take care...Thanks..

My uncle retired to Tampa/ St. Petersburg on the west coast. He has a lot of retiree friends. Miami has quite a reputation as wild so I would guess the east coast is younger.

The Gulf has much better beaches. The panhandle (especially Destin area) is simply georgeous. Pensacola is the largest town near Destin.

Maybe the Atlantic side is better, because the surf is MUCH better.
The gulf side is more sedate, more calm, more senior adults.
