Can the instrument with which I see the world be used to 'see' what the instrument itself is? Or is this like trying to view a telescope through it's own lense? Can you please help me shed som 'light' on this problem?

Or.. like the telescope reveals stars and galaxies to me, could there be an instrument that could reveal to me the attributes of my mind? Would it not have to be something that converts some 'measurable' attribute into a visual image? What would this need to be?

You cannot objectively observe anything, be it your mind, or even the stars. Every measurement of an object changes the object.

This is especially true of the mind. How could you examine it without attempting to change those things you don't like.

Certain faculties of the mind you can't perceive-- since they are providing the conditions for conscious experience. But my perception is plain. I see it, it's a total fact, even if it's a hallucination, that I see 'this' color patch. Empiricism is a science that bases itself on these fundamental experiences. The content is observable though what gives rise to them is an inchoate and inveterate problem.

That is like trying to directly view the back of your head. The one thing we can never comprehend is our own intellect because of our own ego, we lie to ourselves.
