She may not be aware of how loud it is and how thin the walls are. I would knock on her door and in a friendly way, tell her the music is too loud and bothering you in your home. Ask her to turn it down.
If this doesn't work and you do not get a positive response, call your local police department and ask what ordinances there are on noise and loud music. If there are laws (be aware that this is going to piss off your neighbor), you can ask the police to speak with her. Normally, they will warn her the first time.
If she turns it up after they leave.... which inconsiderate people do, you can call them again. If there is an ordinance, there is a consequence, such as a fine.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Noise pollution is very annoying. I don't know where you are but I'm in England. There seems two reasons why one might get noise from neighbours. One is because new apartments are built out of inferior materials and partitions are often not much more than plaster boards. The second is inconsiderate neighbours. Now, since you spelled neighbours aneighboursrs I think you might be American - or else a user of American English. I agree with the other replies you've received already - and I'd be really annoyed. Does one play music back more loudly when you know they are in or does one alert them to the annoyance they are causing you by knocking on their door? It sounds so frustrating and annoying though. I guess the right thing to do is to knock on their door and tell them about the loud music and the bass. And if they tone it down but start again a day or two later to go around to them again and tell them again. After telling them 2 or 3 times then it's time for alerting the authorities or taking some other form or action.

I would find out exactly what your legal options are prior to acting. I would also look into having the walls between your two places insulated for more privacy. Maybe they are not.
I agree with everyone else, you need to tell her the problem. Maybe have her come over while her music is on and let her hear the problem for her self. Hopefully it will end up friendly.
I was friends with my neighbor but the minute I complained about her music because I was working rotating shifts she became unfriendly. Got ugly. She started slamming cabinets, whatever she could do to make noise. California law states, it doesn't matter what time of day you can not disturb your neighbors.

Give her the benefit of the doubt (I know it sounds silly, because she should know better, but do it just to keep peace...some people are ignorant!) and go over and let her know the music is a little loud. Ask her if she could keep the noise levels down a bit. When she's playing the music, go over and ask her to come to your place so she can hear for herself. She might now know it's that loud (I hate saying that, but it MAY be the case). If she doesn't stop, you can always call the cops. That's the only other way you're going to get this resolved if she is uncooperative. There ARE laws against such things.

I live in a similar size home. I wear a pair of wireless headphones. They are great , as i can freely wear them throughout the house and even outside for a ways. They block out all outside and far noise. You can hear things next to you though, like if you dropped something, or the phone is a few feet away. Other wise only the headphones.
I listen to a white noise program (vectormediasoftware.com) of the net. It also works for radio, tv, whatever and audio jack plugs into.
I live in a major city with tons of children on my block and here nothing!

Take a plate of cookies over to her and when you hand over the cookies say "Welcome to the neighborhood. By the way, would you mind turning your music down, it's knocking the pictures off my walls." Not the best way to meet your new neighbor, but you have to do something about the noise.

Knock on her door, welcome her to the neighborhood, and politely ask her to keep her music at a reasonable level because its current volume is disturbing your peace. If that doesn't work, call the police and report a Disturbance of the Peace.

Call the police. They'll often break up parties if it's late enough. You could also ask her personally to turn her speakers down.

Ask her politely to knock it the hell off. If she refuses call the cops and file a complaint. If she still refuses take her to court and sue the crap out of her.

Meet her and go to her place for coffee. Leave your stereo on really loud when you go over, and then comment on how thin the walls are.
