I believe that there is no question that slavery would have died out on its own, at least in the US. Let's face it, even southern slaveholders felt a little guilty about the whole thing. I know this for three reasons:1)The Virginia legislature came within one vote of abolishing slavery in that state circa ~1820. This movement would likely have gained steam as time went on and may have slowly spread across the south. 2) It was a common practice among slaveholders to free their slaves in their will at the time of their death. This was already producing a rising volume of freed slaves throughout the south. 3) There was a movement among southern whites to slowly send the blacks back to Africa. This is how the country of Liberia was created. This movement may well have gained steam as well as time went on.
Now add in the coming of mechanized farming and it is very clear that machines would have replaced slaves long ago, just as machines replaced horses as the main form of transportation. It is also true that there were so many immigrants coming to America that the worst jobs were given to Irish and Polish immigrants. Slaves were too expensive and too valuable to waste on dangerous jobs like building railroads or climbing scaffolding! All of this would have eventually led to the downfall of slavery. So what effect would it have on the modern world of 2006? Probably not a whole heck of a lot, except that the state of West Virginia might still be part of Virginia, but very little else, in my opinion.

I think slavery would persist even today. if you look at some countries (I refrain from saying which countries) even today they have slaves, i.e. by paying a person $1 a day for endless hard working hours if that is not slavery than I do not know what is. Anyway if slavery was legal today the strong and rich countries would force into slavery the poor countries, millions would still be exploited without mercy. I do not think history would have changed because slavery still exists.

i think of of slavery could persist even immediately. in case you look at some international places (I refrain from affirming which international places) even immediately they have slaves, i.e. by paying a individual $a million an afternoon for countless no longer hardship-unfastened working hours if that may no longer slavery than i do no longer understand what's. as nicely if slavery substitute into criminal immediately the sturdy and prosperous international places could stress into slavery the unfavourable international places, hundreds of hundreds could besides the undeniable fact that be exploited without mercy. i do no longer think of of history might have replaced because of the fact slavery besides the undeniable fact that exists.

Look up Nazi Germany under Hitler's rule.
I think that would be a fair comparison to start with.
