what about poor families? wouldn't it be a burden for them to have to buy more expensive cloths

No, I don't think so. I think it's a great tool to keep school about school and not who has the most stylish clothing. That way a kid won't have to deal with social status issues in school because certain clothes can't be afforded. And I bet most parents would agree it makes things easier all the way around. Just my two cents.....

No. They should be required in ALL public schools.
1) It is easy to identify an outsider quickly if they are not in a uniform and the students are.
2) It is easier to enforce the dress code when everyone is wearing uniforms. You don't have to worry about slogans on T-shirts or a girl's belly hanging out.
3) It helps to minimize the differences between the economic backgrounds of the different students in the school.
4) It is cheaper in the long run to have uniforms than to buy a bunch of school clothes.

No I don't think they should. I only just finished school a few weeks ago. I was very thankful for having a uniform, it meant I didn't have to stress and worry about what I was going to wear to school. Most of my friends thought the same. In fact, as seniors we actually only had to wear uniform on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We were aloud to wear normal clothes on Wednesday. Almost everyone I ever asked said they found it annoying on Wednesdays, having to find something to wear. We were also lucky enough to have a pretty alright looking uniform, and one which wasn't totally strict, so we could make a few adjustments (such as wearing a different style of navy blue pants or a different style of white shirt). our uniform was also pretty comfortable, which is more then I can say for most of the clothes which got worn to school on mufti days.

Uniforms take some of the stress out of going to school. It allowed us to focus more on what was important, school work and having a good time. You can't be teased for wearing the same thing everyday, if everyone has to do it!

Uniforms also make it possible to more easily in force safety regulations, such as having sleeves for sun protection and wearing the right clothes for certain activities at school. They also make it easier to inforce dress standerds, such as not wearing really inappropriate or revealing clothes to school. (which happened a lot on mufti days even though it's against the rules).

Overall, I see no reason for not having uniforms. I actually miss having a uniform to wear, finding something to wear everyday now it really kinda annoying!

And to the person who said it's mainly the teachers fault for not punishing the kids for not sticking to dress codes. Teachers already have enough trouble doing their job, TEACHING people. Why should more be added to their already very full, hard and stressful job just so a bunch of kids don't have to wear a uniform?

I went to a school that had uniforms. It was still about clothes, except it was focused on how they fit you. They do keep the cost down on clothes and help you pay attention in school, but it doesnt take away the judgement of your peers.

No. There are too many benefits obtained from the use of uniforms. I think it would be great if all public schools had uniforms.

Uniforms in public schools should only be worn in areas that need them, and besides kids just show there indiduality and wealth in other ways anyways.

yes because it is mainly the teachers fault for not punishing the kids who were out of the original dress code and uniforms should be removed
