Yes! There is never enough money to get everyone on the list a nice gift that they might even like, so I get only my Mom, my daughter and son, and my only grandson something, usually home made.
A few years ago, I was frustrated at having too much to do, all in one month, so I started eliminating many of my 'traditional' voluntary jobs (making yeast breads, fudge, sticky buns, decorated cookies, popcorn balls,), cut way back on unnecessary decorations (even the tree), skipped some parties, didn't volunteer for caroling, decorating the church, etc. The thing that surprised me was when arriving for the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, I had no Christmas Spirit. I discovered that I had gone too far in the canceling department and that had been where the Christmas spirit has been hiding. Now my life has changed, yet again, and there is little incentive to do the voluntary jobs that I once canceled, and why bother decorating just for me and the dog. I must say, I'm sorry now that I dropped the jobs that nourished the Christmas spirit in me way before I needed to because now I wish I had some of them left.

Sometimes I do. I try to get my shopping done well before the holiday and try to keep my mind on the real meaning of the season by listening to holiday music, making cookies etc. I also try not to be a perfectionist about the holidays. All the details don't have to worthy of Martha Stewart. I also try to be realistic about getting along with family. If things bug me normally, they're also going to bug me during the holidays. Sometimes the holidays feel too busy, so I start trying to see friends early on, so I'm not rushing to see everyone at the same time. Strategies really depend on the person's life though. Hope this is helpful.

well personally yes, i do find the holidays very stressful. With all of the shopping and cooking that needs to be done it becomes a terrible hassle. I just try to take in the spirit of it all and not worry so much about the material things, however that is what it's all about to most people but it doesn't have to be that way

They can be. I try to avoid the malls on weekends. I would avoid the really bad rush hour traffics by going to a restaurant after work and then get home after rush hour. I go home and listen to some soft christmas songs.
