What do you think the president and congress should do?

I believe that the top three problems facing the nation today are (1) that we have turned our backs on God. (2) that we have way too many single parent families (3) that we are abusing the resources of this planet.

I believe that the President and Congress should immediately enact legislation to get prayer back into schools and allow God to become prominent in our lives, stop the decay of the institution of family, and start conserving our natural resources.

1. The social dilemma: too many parents working too many hours, not spending enough time with their children, and also a high divorce rate resulting in broken homes. In the 50's and 60's it wasn't like that, but there has been a slow transition to the way society is built today. This results in kids without a moral compass, finding comfort in their groups of friends.

Solution: you can't legislate marriages. However, we need to stop our jobs from being outsourced to India and China. Industry needs a greater motivation (don't know how though) to keep jobs in America. I know it costs more to pay our workers, since we demand a higher living wage...maybe tax credits or some incentive like that.

2. The education dilemma: related directly to the social dilemma. Parents aren't spending enough time with the kids, expecting the schools to do that for them. When the kids misbehave, teachers can't wack them anymore. A public education is a great concept, but if the parents aren't putting time into it at home, the kids don't do as well, resulting in a "stupider" graduating class - overall. But compounded into this is the fact that parents expect all their children to graduate, hence grade inflation. All a kid has to do these days is breathe, and they will graduate. Unfortunately, they don't even do that, evidenced by the drop-out rate nationally of about 30%, give or take. This will only get worse. And as American youth get "stupider" and "stupider", employers will tend to want to outsource jobs to a more educated society, that works for a cheaper rate, thus feeding the social dilemma.

Solution: revamp the education system. It is a dinosaur anyways. Don't try to force every kid through the same system. When they are 15 or 16, and clearly don't show an interest in continuing to college, they end up being a pain in the educational backside, and suck resources away from students that do want to excel. So, send those uninterested students into a work program - federally mandated. Parents do jail time if the kids don't show. They first go to an early physical fitness training at 5:30am, then report to a job that will vary as the kid matures. At first, they would be expected to do grunt work. Litter patrol, ditch digging, whatever, and graduate to more skilled jobs in the automotive industry, retail, construction, whatever their interests are. After work, maybe around 2pm or so, they report to a special vocational school, where they are still prepped with the basic reading, writing, and math skills they will need - the core classes.

Ok, lastly:

3. The entertainment dilemma: we pay people way too much to corrupt our minds. Well, adults can usually handle it, but kids can't. The rating systems have gone down the tubes, as evidenced by "G-rated" Happy Feet. Man, I spent that whole movie worried about what was going to come out of that damn penguin's mouth. Booty smacking, penguin grinding, the one penguin even had a little harem going on. G-rated? Are you kidding me? This dilemma also relates to the social dilemma. Parents not with kids, kids have a 100 channels (plus internet) (plus video games) to choose from. Bad formula. I don't know if you watched MTV in the 80's, but it isn't the same now. Then there is BET. Oh, good, high-quality entertainment there .

Solution: in a capitalist system, there isn't a solution. There would be a need for a national outcry - a boycott of Hollywood and violent video games. Do you see that happening? You can't legislate that...it requires people demanding quality, not crap. I rarely watch tv anymore, it is so boorish, full of overly used sexual innuendos, language...basically garbage round and round. I was happy to see that fewer people were going to the movies these days. Good. That's a start. I thought I would be safe with Happy Feet. Yeah, right.

Well, I'm not all pessimistic in nature, but you asked for problems. These I see as overriding.

Another issue is about the climate, and global warming, a global and a national issue. That won't be taken care of unless we can tackle these basics...and I say good luck with that as well!

My top 3:
1. The situation in Iraq
2. The economy
3. Terrorism

I think Congress should investigate questions about the decision to go to war with Iraq, investigate government contracts in Iraq, increase the minimum wage, cut the interest rate on federal student loans, and enact all the recommendations of the 9/11 commission.

1. The ACLU and judges.
Take away the ability to over rule the will of the people. Judges should not make rulings concerning personal and domestic issues. Take the wind out of the sails of the ACLU - they are not our friend.
2. The enemy - whacked out Muslims (as apposed to Muslims)
Crack down inside and outside our borders.
3. Those, in our government, who would have their opinion rule.
The government (and judges) are much too involved in our personal lives and it is not enough; they are shooting for more control. Term limits would do a lot to keep government from getting bigger than was intended.

Congressional Spending

Health Care (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare, etc...)

Social Security (a.k.a., The Great "Ponzi Scheme")

Stop the crazy levels of expenditures

Cut waste and fraud and use the leverage of the federal government to obtain favorable pricing; and,

Privatize Social Security so I can really make myself self-sufficient in retirement without having government interfere and screw things up as they so often do. If I had all of my Social Security contributions and those of my employer invested over time, I would be a millionaire in my retirement.

Godlessness. In light of the Iraq war, and the growing global hostility our world needs love, and love comes from a higher power, a greater consciousness, wether it be Jesus Christ, Alla or Buddha. As the world becomes crippled by the depleting oil supplies, it seems the the world is metaphorically bowing ever deeper to the causes of capitalistic society. God equals love, and we need love badly in this world.
