I have a coolant leak from the r/h side back of engine. Appears to be coming from a housing on the right side of engine in which the surpentine accessories mount. Doesn't appear to be leaking at water pump. Is there a housing gasket that gets replaced there?

Welcome to the world of the GM car. I am assuming you either have a 3.1 or a 3.4 engine. If you do, get out your checkbook. What we have here is a leaking lower intake. GM uses a plastic gasket with rubber embedded in it to seal the top end. The gaskets themselves are not overly expensive. The labor however calls for about 5.5 hours to replace. If you have a mechanic do it (I would highly recommend you not replace it yourself), request that he use fel-pro metal gaskets.

I just did one of these this afternoon and although book time is over 5 hours, I can usually have them done in under 4 hours.

There is a tube from the coolant system to the heater hose. it is beneath the alternator and power steering pump. It is a nightmare to get to but it is a common leak for G.M. It has an O-ring at both ends, and some models have a housing with a gasket attached to the front housing. It isn't particularly complicated, and special tools are not needed, but it is difficult and time consuming. It is also a good time to replace the serpentine belt and hoses while you are at it, as well as refresh the coolant.

Good Luck
