Grey's Anatomy?

Question

All of my friends love the popular TV show, Grey's Anatomy.
I haven't watched even one episdoe of it, but I want to start watching it.
Is it hard to catch on to what is happening, and get everything?
Or is it fairly simple to know whats going on?
Could you provide info with what has happened?

Simply:

The show is about Meredith grey and what makes her tick. She drinks has casual sex and winds up i bed with total stangers. Her mother was a world renound surgeon who now has Alzheimers and lives in a sanitareum while Meredtih lives in her house and works as an intern.

She slept with her attending Derek, (McDreamy) Shepherd who turned out to be married, but seperated and is now in the middle of a divorce. His wife Addison Montgomery Shepherd showed up at the end of the first season to spill the beans, see if they could work it aout and then divorce him only to tell him afterwards that she had an affair with his best friend Mark for months. Derek thought it was a one night thing. Mark join the show this year to try and reclaim Addison and he will sleep with anything female. Derek is a brain surgeon. Addison is in Pediatric surgery. Mark, (Mc Steamy) Sloan is in Plastic Surgery and is very vain and has already slept with another woman Callie Torres from the ER, (More about her later).

Meredith took intwo interns as roommates and friends Izzie Stevens and George O'Malley. George had a crush on Meredith and eventually had sex with her but she cried when he told her he loved her and she knew she had made a big mistake. George had Syphillis which he got from a nurse. That was not the mistake. He has recently broken up with Callie in the ER because he was afraid of another rejection like with Meredith. His best friend is Izzie. Izzie is an ex white trash trailer park girl who had a baby at 16 and gave it up to become a doctor which she paid for by modelingin her underwear as Bethany Whisper. She has slept with a hockey guy and eventually with Alex Karev, another intern to be covered later. She fell in love with a heart patient, Denny Duquette who she tried to help get a heart which he did get but then he died from a clot. She confessed to almost killing him, quit , and then returned on probation. Denny left her 8.7 million dollars in his estate. She has not cahsed the check. It is on the refrigerator.

Meredith's best friend is Christina Yang, who like Meredith is sleeping with an attending Preston Burke, cardiology. She got pregnant and had a miscarriage. They cam out in public with their relationship and moved in with one another. Burke got shot trying to check on Denny and developed weakness and tremors in his right hand. Christina has been helping him hide this fact until the last episode when it seemed he blew up a lady's heart.
Preston was going to be named chief but now that won't happen. They both may be on probation and or suspension.

Alex, the last intern is a Mc Steamy in Progress. He has slept with most of the nurses helping to spread the syphillis in the hospital. He slept four times with Izzie and that is about all you are told. He is getting ready to sleep with Addison who is trying to teach him to be a pediatric surgeon.

All of the interns are under the watchful eye of Mariem Bailey, (The Nazi), a resident who is married, got pregnant and had a baby (George Bailey Thompson). George helped deliver the baby with Addison. She is in trouble over Izzie and Denny, Meredith and Derek and Christina and Burke all the time. Attendings should not be sleeping with interns and izzie cut Denny's LVAC wires to get him the heart.

The chief is Richard Webber, who used to sleep with Meredith's mom when she was in the hospital. His wife knew about it as did Ellis's husband. Ellis divorced trevor Grey and raised Meredith pretty much on her own with a nanny. trevor remarried and has a daughter by another wife. Richard's wife wants him to retire and to stop seeing Ellis at the sanitarium. He may do so.

The show is in Seattle.

Derek, Mark and Addison are in from New York.

Also coming in Are Nancy (McHotty) Shepherd, Derek's sister who has also slept with Mark. She is in Pediatrics.

And Dr. Erica Haun, the cardiologist that will be stepping in for Preston(Burke) in Cardiology. The second best heart surgeon in Seattle.

The only other person worth mentioning is Joe the bartender/owner at Joe's place the bar near the hospital where everyone goes to get drunk. He is openly gay and has boyfriend.

As far as what is going on:

Christina and burke are breaking up. George has a father with cancer and a bad heart valve. Addison may be pregnant. People are speculating there. They thought Meredith was pregnant and she had an appendicitis. Izzie is still sitting on a lot of money. Richard may retire. Derek may be made Chief. Mark is still trying to score Addison. Callie is trying to win back George after he found out she slept with Mark. Alex looks like he may sleep with Addision after Izzie turned him down George may finally sleep with Izzie. And Bailey will have try and watch over her unruley interns, many of which should be suspended.

I am pretty sure you can rent the first season DVD at a video rental store. That would be a great way to catch up if you have the time to watch all the episodes. I got into it late myself, and feel pretty well on top of things now. I learned a lot from Lord Z and others' answers.

I am a grey's anatomy freak and i would have to say that it is hard to keep up with what is going on. Basically, all you need to know is that the main character is meredith grey and its about her life as an intern. She is currently dating and attending named doctor sheppard (or as her and the interns refer to him as Dr. McDreamy). He had a wife named addison who now works at the hospital as Dr. Montgomery (or Dr. Montgomery Sheppard). She cheated on McDreamy with McDreamy's former best friend, McSteamy (i forgot his name). He also works at the hospital. The other attending is Dr. Burke. He is dating the intern christina yang. Dr. Burke got shot and has something wrong with his hand so he gets tremors so he has difficulty doing surgery so secretly, christina helps him. One of the other interns, Dr. O'mally or George is catching onto this and knows what is going on. His dad is in the hospital and needs these complex surgeries. He was going to have Burke perform these surgeries but due to what he knows, he switched to the new doctor that the Chief hired, Dr. Hann. Izzie, another intern, doesnt know what is going on and is on probation because she fell in love with a patient named denny and took drastic measures to save him. This is all i can think of now if anything else is confusing just ask a question and ill answer. If this is confusing, go to the website and i think they have answers and can tell you basically whats going on. U should b able to catch on eventually.

Yeah...i started watching a little bit through the 2nd season and was immediatly hooked. i didnt see the entire first season until my sister bought the dvd this summer. It's not that hard to catch on...you dont need to read every little detail of what happens...heres my tip: watch it with a friend and have him or her fill you in on details as you go.

It is a great show! At the start of every show they give a little recap but to really get every bit of it, you should rent season one from your local video store.. That will get you up to speed enough to follow along now in season 3... Do it! You will love the show!

It'll be really hard to catch on to whats happening, go to http://www.ctv.ca, click on shows, click on Grey's Anatomy, you can read a paragraph for what every show in the last season was about, then you'll probobly still not understand it, you'd have to watch every past episode to fully understand the show

I love this show, its amazing. rent seasons 1 & 2 you won't be sorry and its very easy to follow but you won't appreciate the relationships unless u rent the 2 seasons.

Like it's a really dramatic show

it's not like ER or House where it's just medical mysteries. A lot of the episode is dramatic stuff. If you want to get into it I suggest:

I think that it is a great show! I have watched it since the first season. In the first season Meredith and Derek AKA McDreamy meet at a bar and had a one-night stand. That didn't work for Meredith when she found out that he was her boss's boss. There realationship grew and grew till Derek was staying at Meredith's till one night when Derek was waiting for Meredith and his wife came in and said and I Quote "So your the woman who's been screwing my husband." That ended season one.

Season two was just plain weird. At the beginnig Derek told Meredith the reason why he moved to Seattle and the whole story with his wife sleeping with his best friend (Mark). Then Addison AKA Saten Dereks wife got him to think twice before he signed the divorce papers. Then he called Meredith a dirty skank. Over the season Derek tryed to peice his marrage back together till Mark showed up in Seattle and started to flirt with Meredith. After Derek punched Mrak AKA McSteamy. Meredith started to date her dogs vet named Finn. After Merediths dog started to get agresive she gave the dog away. Derek got the dog, found out about Finn and Meredith and got jelious. So the last episod the dog had to be put to sleep and Meredith went to the prom at the hospital. The prom was for the chief of syrgreys Neice who was dieing of ovaren cancer. Before the prom starter Merediths friend Izze went up to go see her feance who just had a heart transplant. Before she got up to the room he died. Meredith danced with Finn while Derek danced with Addison. Not long into the slow dance Meredith excused herself and left the room. Derek did the same and they went to an empty exam room and started to fight. The fight ended up with them makeing love. As they were getting ready to go back out to there dates Dr. Torres walked in on them. After that Meredith could not find the black panties she had on. The season ended with the question who would Meredith choose? Finn or Derek.

This season started right where the last one left off. Meredith ran out of the hospital without chooseing. Izzie found out that her feance had left his fortune to her in the form on a check. More like 8 million. After trying to choose she thought that she would just date both guys. Meredith had to have her apendix taken out. And Derek stepped down and told Finn that he could have Meredith.Derek ended his marrage to Addison and Meredith broke up with Finn. Then Derek's sister showed up at the hospital and caused a tornado in Meredith and Derek's realationship, when she found her laying on his bed while he came out of the shower. After that Derek took off on a camping trip with the guys from SGH. They came back early and just in time, because Mark was about to steal Meredith. Then Meredith and Derek got back together.

I heard that Derek's ex-wife is going to start dating one of Meredith's fellow interns.
