My relative is a lady in her 50's who hasn't worked for at least 20-25 years. When she last worked, she was a travel agent. Now, she needs to get back into the working world because of financial difficulties, but she's had trouble finding a job for the obvious reasons. She has no degree (except for one in fashion design from years ago, but her eyesight won't allow her to be a seamstress anymore). What do you think would be some better career choices for an intelligent woman in her 50's with only minimal computer skills? I know, it's very tough.

Here is a few options. Go back to being a travel agent, It don't take a degree in rocket science to run a computer. Have her take a few training classes usually offer thru local high schools as adult training seminars. She can also apply as a para professional at the local school system. Job usually involves working with students who need help w/ homework during school hours, handicapped students that need help & play ground supervision etc.... Many stores prefer to hire older more mature individuals because they are steady & prompt for work. Go to local job service & be tested they can also help to point her in a direction that she might think she can't do. Good Luck.

See if she can consider sales, although it might be difficult finding a decent company.

Ideally, it would be best if she could start a small business of some sort on a shoestring.

"50's" is certainly not old in this day and age and there should really be a lot of opportunities.

Can try a home based business. Minimal capital, no special skill requirement, education level & experience. Do it at freetime, anytime, anywhere & everyone can do it. I might suggesting a direct-selling business such as AMWAY because i myself are taking it as a part-time job to cover my finances. Log on to www.amway.com for informations. Hope this will help.. Good Luck.

Perhaps she can work "from home" as an "At home Travel Agent" or call the Travel Agencies in the city where she lives and ask if they can use her part-time or full-time.

Well, she will have to foget a career unless she is going to train
for something that she really likes, so she will have to settle for
just about anything that is offered.
