I have recently come into possession of a small pin which has piqued my curiousity. Although it does not appear to have any value at first glance I am somewhat interested as to what it represents.
I have done extensive research on the internet myself but to no avail.
I thought perhaps someone in the Yahoo! Answers community might chance upon the question and be able to provide some helpful insight. A description is as follows:

The pin is approximately 1" in length and 1/2" wide with a crown at the top.
The face is red, there is a cross with a box in the middle of it which has the letters "C" and "X" inside of it. The letter "X" is inside of the letter "C".
On the bottom of the pin face on either side of the base of the cross are two dates; the years 1870 on the left and 1945 on the right.

Despite my best efforts I have as yet to figure out what exactly the symbol represents. Any help would be appreciated.

My apologies for the previous lack of detail however, I am somewhat ignorant with regards to certain things.
The cross appears to be plain, simple and unremarkable. It is simply two intersecting lines.
I do not immediately get the impression that the pin is military in nature although I suppose it's possible.
It most definitely does not seem to be religious in nature.
The crown which sits atop the piece is little different that the crown which is displayed on a Crown Royal liquor bottle.
Plain, ordinary and unremarkable as well.
With regards to the typeface I am not certain, but it bears a semblance to the standard Times New Roman font on my word processor.
Again, you have my abject apologies but there is little else I can offer with regards to specifics.
Thank you once again for your time and consideration.

Sounds like the pin is of a Christian religious nature. I'm not familiar with the Cx in the box but the Crowned Cross is definately Christian and I think Catholic. The only Catholic significance I can attribute to the years 1870 - 1945 is the 75th anniversary of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Trying to attribute lapel pins can take a very long time sometimes. I have a box full of them that I've collected from auction lots over the years.
Good luck & happy hunting! :o)
