Either one is fine. As long as your sending good wishes, it doesn't matter how you say it.

I always liked it when people said Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays make me feel as though people are afraid to say Merry Christmas because they don't like the idea of saying the word Christ.

It was changed because people didn't like the idea of it being a Christian Holiday. I have heard that people complained so much, to stores that made their employees say Happy Holidays, so they wouldn't offend the customers. I guess enough people complained that some stores are going to go back to saying Merry Christmas.

It does not really matter:
"Happy Christmas" or Merry Holidays"
It's all the same to me!

Merry Christmas.

People are just cheap saying "happy holidays" because they can say it from Thanksgiving to New Years.
