Exactly..... all modern mowers are 12 volt systems....
I'd recommend (if its dead, or low on power) and is more then 2 years old..... getting a new battery..., usually they last 2-3 years at the most (some more, some less even)

They can be both, count thr cells, each cell handles 1.2 to 2.5 volts
Therefore 3 cells (or 4) 6 volts 6 cells (or 8) 12 volts

12 volts. How you can know. Most lawn and motorcycle batteries, and car actually when you know how to see; the will be 3 water fill plugs/holes if it 6 volt and 6 water fill plugs/holes if it 12 volt. True we are TOLD battires are maintence free, Ha! yes, buy another battery when it just low on water. 80% of batteries the cover can be removed to add "Distilled Water" just look. True there are a few that are Seal/Gel Cells that when low on water you have to buy another.

Acid batteries have 2.2V if fully charged (rare occasion). ~ So, 3 cells 6V, 6 cells 12 V battery.
