The World Trade Center was an office building, pretty much the same as any other office building. Companies worked inside ther, probably a number of stockbrokers. From what I understand, functionally, there was no difference between the purposes of the business carried on there as oppsed to any other office building. There may have been unethical things ordered from there, but unfortunately, that's modern America. The World Trade Center was picked more because the two towers were two of the tallest buildings in New York City, a city which has been noted for tall buildings. The targets were symbolic of American Westernness, which in a Muslim's book, we are the Great Satan. By the way, what is a gf?

The destruction of the WTC has nothing to do with trade, It didn't stop trade at all. America doesn't screw over other countries through trade anymore than any other country does. The WTC was a building for various countries and a center for certain economic business. It is not the center of trade for America or any other country.

Well that is really sad that somebody would say that about innocent ppl. those ppl in the WTC didn't deserve to die. But to be honest with you the Americans have bombed other countries and innocent women and children have died. these countries did not invade the United States. those ppl were innocent too they didn't deserve to die either. so many innocent ppl have been brutally killed. But the United States has been known for being harsh with some of these other countries that they do trade with. they have in the past withheld essential goods to these countries to ensure they were making a profit so of course these countries did whatever the US wanted. These countries were poor and relied so heavily on trade with the US to feed their ppl. so no none of these innocent ppl deserved to die just b/c the united states has been unfair in trade. but also there are opinions that the US bombs countries but when they were bombed we started a war and these countries didn't. ppl believe that Americans are more worthy than those other ppl that died so brutally. so i guess make your own opinion but i think that you would agree that no the WTC didn't deserve to be bombed.

I honestly DO NOT believe that you or your liberal gf are THAT dumb. Name some countries that the USA has destroyed by trade. Name just one. The US has, for years, had a deficit on their international trade. That is to say, that what we have imported has a higher value than what we have exported. That does not exactly speak well for the job situation in the US, while the countries that export to us would be getting the best deal. The world trade center was staffed by many other countries. ALL had a vested interest in international trade.

It was an office tower. Plain and simple. Since it was connected to the port, a lot of international business was conducted there.
Ask your GF how she feels about Darfur. Ask her which would be more beneficial to the people there. A bag of flour or economic freedom through a job.
The countries that trade with the US are benefiting from that trade as the US trade deficit is horrendous.

First of all, your girlfriend needs to seriously reconsider that statement.
But, in answer to the rest of your question, there is some truth to the rest of her statement, for many and varied reasons. To keep it brief, suffice it to say that in addition to Americans being the biggest consumers on the planet, we also have business dealings all over the world. In too many cases, we have not treated many other countries kindly.
The World Trade Center was in the financial district of Manhattan, and many businesses had office space in the towers. They were also iconic symbols of New York City, itself symbolic of America's wealth and power. The WTC was targeted precisely because of that symbolism.

Whatever it was there for and whatever economical disparity it created cannot justify the killing of innocents. Remeber that there were many little children, whose parents went to work in WTC on that fateful day, never got to see them again. You need to put yourself in the shoes of those small innocent children (many of whom knew only the words moma and dad) to really feel the pain.

No one should think the WTC bombing was good. 3000 people lost their lives. You should dump her if she thinks thats good.

Dump her. If she thinks her loss in a business deal is worth the murders of 3000 people, she is crazy. Ask her to meet a family member of somebody murdered that day.
